High-level cooperation

The replica was developed through the cooperation of CYMA, T8 (SP System), and Taiwangun and uses the modern CGS gas system, which ensures realistic operation of the mechanism and a noticeable recoil effect characteristic of Gas Blowback constructions. At the same time, the project maintains the historical styling of Colt carbines from the late 1960s and early 1970s, thanks to which the replica very well reflects the atmosphere of Vietnam War-era weaponry.

The external construction is made of high-quality aluminum alloy, while steel components are used in key areas, which increase durability and resistance to wear during intensive use.

Characteristic features of the GAU-5/A/A construction

The GAU-5/A/A model is a development of earlier CAR-15 variants and introduces several construction changes compared to earlier versions of the carbine. The replica includes, among others, a full fence type lower receiver, which appeared in later variants of the AR-15 platform.

A later variant upper receiver was also used, characteristic of constructions developed from around 1967. Unlike standard M16 rifles, the GAU-5/A/A version did not have a forward assist, which was typical for variants developed for the US Air Force.

One of the most characteristic elements of this construction is the flash moderator with a characteristic grenade ring, enabling the mounting of the XM148 or M203 grenade launcher, which in the original weapon was intended to reduce the muzzle flash and decrease the perceived sound generated by the short barrel of the carbine.

The replica also reproduces other characteristic elements of this platform, such as a round forged upper, a front sight base without a bayonet lug, a front sling mount attached with a spring roll pin, and a delta ring handguard mounting, which replaced the earlier slip ring solution used in older AR platform variants.

The construction also maintains the appropriate styling of the bolt carrier group, a graphite-gray-black bolt carrier, characteristic of later CAR-15 platform versions used in the final period of the Vietnam War.

Reinforced steel construction

To increase durability, the manufacturer used steel external components in the most stressed areas of the replica. These include, among others, the muzzle device (moderator), forged front sight, bolt catch, magazine release, trigger, construction pins, magazine, and buffer tube nut. The use of these components significantly increases resistance to wear during intensive use, while also making it a solid base for further modifications and tuning.
