The History of the Luger Pistol

In service for more than 7 decades, the Luger P08 was initially introduced and adopted by the Swiss army at the turn of the 20th century and was then quickly tested and adopted by the German military and navy just years later. Alongside the M1911 pistol, the Luger P08 was largely responsible for the discontinuation of the use of revolvers in police forces and militaries around the world. This is largely thanks to its accuracy, its semi-automatic operation, and its larger magazine.

For a period, the Luger was the most popular side-arm in the world, and it saw extensive use in World War I, especially by the German military. But the Luger's story didn't end there; after some upgrades to the original design, the pistol still saw continued use up to World War II as well, where it was deployed by the German and Italian militaries mainly.
