The Colt CAR-15 Model 607 replica from the CGS Vietnam series refers to one of the first attempts to create a compact version of the AR-15 platform, developed by Colt in the mid-1960s. The Model 607 was a pioneering construction of a shortened carbine intended for soldiers requiring a more mobile weapon than the standard M16 rifle. This construction was used, among others, by *Navy SEAL special forces unit*s, as well as soldiers operating in confined spaces.

Productive cooperation

The replica was created through cooperation between CYMA, T8 (SP System), and Taiwangun, and its heart is the modern CGS gas system (CYMA Gas System). This system ensures realistic bolt operation, noticeable recoil, and mechanics similar to real firearms. Thanks to this, the replica offers a very high level of realism characteristic of Gas Blowback Rifle (GBBR) constructions.

Characteristics of the Colt M607 construction

The Colt 607 model was one of the first attempts to create a shortened AR-15 platform and served as a starting point for later constructions such as the XM177 or GAU-5/A. The replica faithfully reproduces construction solutions characteristic of early AR-15 platform variants.

The construction uses a partial fence type lower receiver, typical for earlier generations of the AR-15 platform.

The replica also uses the earliest type of upper receiver “square forged" with forward assist, which is distinguished by a matching line between the lower and upper, used in constructions from the mid-1960s.

Early AR-15 constructions used the classic slip ring handguard mounting, which has also been reproduced in this replica.
The styling of the replica also retains the characteristic appearance of the bolt carrier group, a bright silver / chrome bolt carrier, typical for early AR-15 platform variants.
Thanks to these details, the replica very well reflects the character of the first experimental CAR-15 carbines, which became the foundation for the development of later compact Colt constructions.

One of the most characteristic elements of the Colt 607 model is its unusual, *early-generation telescopic stock. The replica reproduces the historical stock type used in the first CAR-15 carbines, which significantly differed from later constructions used in XM177 or M4 models.

The stock was designed as a compact telescopic construction with a guide rod placed inside a metal housing, which allowed shortening the length of the weapon and facilitated transport in vehicles or during operations in confined spaces. A characteristic element of this construction is the extended metal cover of the stock guide, which also serves as a shoulder support.

This solution was one of the first experimental telescopic stock designs used in the AR-15 platform. Although it was later replaced by simpler constructions, the Colt 607 stock became one of the most recognizable elements of early CAR-15 carbines, and its distinctive appearance remains a symbol of the first attempts to create a compact version of the AR-15 platform.

Reinforced steel construction

To increase durability, the manufacturer used steel external components in the most stressed areas of the replica. These include, among others, a forged front sight, bolt catch, magazine release, trigger, construction pins, magazine, and buffer tube. The use of steel components in these key areas significantly increases resistance to wear during intensive use, while also making it a solid base for further modifications and tuning.

The replica was made under Colt Industries license, thanks to which it features authentic manufacturer markings and faithfully reproduced construction details of the original firearm. The external construction is made of high-quality aluminum, while key mechanical components are made of steel, which increases durability and resistance to intensive use.
