Colt 609/GAU-5/A GBBr Replica CGS - Black [EMG]

The Cybergun GAU-5/A Colt M610 replica from the CGS Vietnam series is a faithfully reproduced construction inspired by one of the most characteristic compact AR-15 platforms used during the Vietnam War. The project was created in cooperation between CYMA, T8 (SP System), and Taiwangun, combining the historical appearance of CAR-15 family carbines with a modern CGS (CYMA Gas System) system, ensuring realistic operation of the replica. The original GAU-5/A was developed for the US Air Force and was intended mainly for aircrews, K9 soldiers, and units operating in confined spaces. Thanks to its compact construction and short barrel, it offered significantly greater mobility while maintaining the capabilities of the AR-15 platform.

Historical construction of the CAR-15 platform

The replica design was developed based on construction solutions characteristic of early carbines from the CAR-15 family, used in the second half of the 1960s. The construction includes, among others, a partial fence type lower receiver, which was typical for earlier variants of the AR-15 platform.

Unlike the XM177E1 model, the GAU-5/A version was equipped with an upper receiver without forward assist, which was a characteristic feature of carbines developed for the US Air Force.
One of the most recognizable elements of this construction is the flash moderator, which in the original firearm was intended to reduce the effect of muzzle blast and flash generated by the short barrel. This element has been faithfully reproduced in the replica, thanks to which it maintains the authentic appearance of a Vietnam War-era construction.

The replica also reproduces other characteristic construction solutions used in this platform, such as a square forged upper, a front sight base without a bayonet lug, a front sling mount attached with a spring roll pin, and the classic slip ring handguard mounting used in earlier variants of the AR platform.

Additionally, the construction maintains the styling of the bolt carrier group, using a silver / chrome bolt carrier, characteristic of early CAR-15 platform constructions.

Thanks to these details, the replica very faithfully reflects the character of the first compact Colt carbines used during the Vietnam War.

The replica was made under Colt Industries license, thanks to which it features authentic manufacturer markings and faithfully reproduced construction details of the original firearm. The external construction is made of high-quality aluminum, while key mechanical components are made of steel, which increases durability and resistance to intensive use.

Reinforced steel construction

To increase durability, the manufacturer used steel external components in the most stressed areas of the replica. These include, among others: flash moderator, forged front sight, bolt catch, magazine release, trigger, construction pins, magazine, and buffer tube nut. The use of steel components in these areas significantly increases resistance to wear during intensive use, while also making it a solid base for further tuning.
