The Uzi 

Designed in the late 40s for use by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), the Uzi became an instant classic thanks to its portability, rate of fire, and reliability. The Uzi was eventually exported to more than 90 countries, where it saw widespread use by standing armies and special forces, including the CIA. 

The MAC-10 and MAC-11

The Military Armament Corporation Models 10 and 11 (known as MAC-10 and MAC-11 or M10 and M11) were lightweight machine pistol guns designed by Gordon Ingram at MAC. Taking cues from the success of the Uzi, these guns were easy to carry and simple to conceal.

Hidden behind their small frame was a destructive, powerful, fully automatic weapon that excelled in close quarters. This led to the adoption of the MAC-10 by the Navy SEALs in the Vietnam War, and the guns only ever became more widely adopted and popular from there, eventually being adopted in over 20 countries by official institutions. 

The MAC-10 and MAC-11 are similar in design, with MAC-11 being a more compact iteration on the original MAC-10 design chambered in smaller .380 ACP ammo. 

While the Uzi was one of the very first lightweight fully automatic submachine guns, the MAC-10 and MAC-11 are considered by many the first real machine pistols. It is why their designer, Gordon Ingram, is often called the "father of machine pistols."
