The XM177E1 replica from the CGS Vietnam series is a faithfully reproduced construction inspired by one of the most characteristic firearms used during the Vietnam War. The project was created thanks to the cooperation of CYMA, T8 (SP System), and Taiwangun, combining the historical appearance of the CAR-15 platform with a modern CGS (CYMA Gas System) system, which provides realistic operation of the replica. The original XM177E1 carbine, known as the “Commando", was developed in response to the urgent need to create a more compact, automatic weapon for helicopter crews, officers, and soldiers of special units, such as the MACV-SOG or Navy SEALs. Thanks to the shortened construction, the weapon was much easier to carry and use in confined spaces, while maintaining the combat capabilities of the AR-15 platform.

A bit of history

The original XM177E1 Commando, elabored from Colt Model 609, was developed as a compact variant of the M16 rifle intended for special units, radio operators. The shortened construction allowed easier handling of the weapon in dense jungle environments and in vehicles, where a standard infantry rifle was too long.

Historical construction inspired by the CAR-15 platform

The replica design is based on construction solutions characteristic of early carbines from the CAR-15 family, used in the second half of the 1960s.

The construction includes, among others, a partial fence type lower receiver, typical for earlier variants of the AR-15 platform.

The XM177E1 model is also equipped with an upper receiver with forward assist, used in constructions produced between 1965-1967.

One of the most recognizable elements of this construction is the flash moderator, whose role in the original firearm was to reduce the effect of muzzle blast and flash generated by the short barrel. This characteristic element has been faithfully reproduced in the replica, giving it an authentic appearance of a weapon from the Vietnam War period.

The replica also uses other elements typical for this platform, such as a square forged upper, a front sight base without a bayonet lug, a front sling mount attached with a spring roll pin, as well as the classic slip ring handguard mounting used in earlier variants of the AR platform.

The styling of the bolt carrier group has also been reproduced, with a silver / chrome bolt carrier, characteristic of early CAR-15 platform constructions. Thanks to these details, the replica faithfully reflects the character of the first compact Colt carbines used during the Vietnam War, making it an attractive choice for collectors, historical reenactors, and enthusiasts of classic AR-15 platforms.

The replica was manufactured under Colt Industries license, thanks to which it features authentic manufacturer markings and faithfully reproduced construction details characteristic of the CAR-15 platform from the Vietnam War period. The external construction is made of high-quality aluminum alloy, while steel elements have been used in key areas, significantly increasing durability and resistance to intensive use.

Reinforced steel construction

To increase durability, the manufacturer has used steel external components in the most stressed areas of the replica. These include, among others: the moderator / muzzle device, forged front sight, bolt catch, magazine release, trigger, construction pins, magazine, and buffer tube nut. The use of steel components in these key areas significantly increases resistance to wear during intensive use, while also making it a solid base for further modifications and tuning.
