The new generation Hakkotsu thunder B airsoft grenade is truly worth 5 Stars.

Before it was unreliable. Now the included shimming ring allows the puncturing height to be adjusted, plus all the little tweaks over the years of development (as Thunder B was launched around 2008 by APS) makes this a great upgrade from the original.

It has become the best airsoft grenade I have tried so far.

The unboxing experience was nice, the set includes all the basics you need to start using the ecosystem. All the components of the set, including the instruction manual and stickers for the dumbbell shells, were sealed in plastic bags.

Build quality is decent, with a high-quality plastic top cap and only a few other parts made out of rubber/plastic. For the rest all machined aluminum/steel components.
One downside I found is that the spoon mounting pin is too slim, making the spoon “wobbly”.

The instructions on the manual, a part for the shimming part, are clear. After tossing it, keep in mind that detonation timings vary depending on atmospheric conditions. I found that the average time in winter is around 4 seconds, probably less in summer.

Pros:
+Low cost per use.
+Shells can be filled with powder and/or bbs or just used as decoys.
+Grenade excels in dry conditions, with big “bangs” without the risk of fire.
+Shells are unique but all compatible, in this case dumbbells are great for bb spread.

Cons:
-Arming procedure is difficult due to the hard spring.
-If the internal rubber knocker buffer breaks, you’ll have to change the entire core.
-Shells are not biodegradable, you can’t leave them on the ground.

Tips:
1. New Gen works perfectly out of the box. If it doesn’t work at first, just unscrew the top black enclosure cap and add the shimming ring.

2. Keep the knocker pin plastic cover, just pull it for removal, and then put it back when you need to store the grenade. You don’t want a sharp pin messing with you or your airsoft gear!

3. If needed add some Teflon tape to improve the sealing between shells and cap.

4. I suggest using mags pouches for storage when playing on the field to prevent breaking the spoon by accident/losing the safety pin and consequently boom yourself out of the game.

5. Use bright coloured tape on the cap of the grenade to find it easily.

Lastly, apart from extra shells, I suggest buying extra safety pins! They are relatively inexpensive and will give you extra peace of mind if you lose or throw them in action ;)

Very loud and amazing on itself, shame they're not allowed on the most sites in the netherlands.
Its also possible to fill the grenade with bbs or powder for extra effect and fun.
On itself 4 stars but i cant use it so i make it 3.
