The Daniel Defense DD5 SBR GEN-2 airsoft rifle by CYMA Platinum is an electric airsoft replica based on the licensed Daniel Defense DD5 SBR design, intended for medium-range airsoft games. The rifle is equipped with an Eshooter Kestrel V2 BASIC ETU and a V2 long gearbox with a quick spring change system, allowing the pre-cocking level to be adjusted and the mechanical configuration of the replica to be adapted. The construction combines metal and polymer components with characteristic Daniel Defense features.

Construction and design

The Daniel Defense DD5 SBR GEN-2 is a licensed airsoft rifle with markings located on the upper receiver, lower receiver, charging handle assembly and handguard. An individual serial number is located on the left side of the lower receiver.

The replica uses licensed Daniel Defense components, including a Daniel Defense Linear Compensator, GRIP-N-RIP AR-10 Ambi Charging Handle, Daniel Defense stock and pistol grip with a Soft Touch coating, Daniel Defense DD5 Rail 10.5 M-LOK handguard and Daniel Defense Mil-Spec trigger.

The construction combines metal and polymer components. Aluminum parts include the front grip, compensator, upper receiver and lower receiver.

Ergonomics and use

The polymer Daniel Defense stock and pistol grip with a Soft Touch coating support a more secure grip while operating the replica.

The Daniel Defense DD5 Rail 10.5 M-LOK handguard allows compatible accessories to be mounted using the M-LOK standard. The 14 mm CCW thread on the outer barrel allows compatible airsoft muzzle devices to be installed.

Internals and mechanics

The replica uses a V2 long gearbox equipped with SR25 steel gears, 8 mm steel ball bearings and a steel ball-bearing spring guide. The quick spring change system makes it easier to adjust the replica configuration to different FPS limits without fully disassembling the gearbox.

The pneumatic system uses an aluminum cylinder head, a full-length steel SR25 cylinder and a 24.28 mm Teflon nozzle. A piston with full steel teeth and an aluminum piston head supports repeatable operation during the firing cycle.

Power is provided by a long neodymium hi-torque motor. This configuration supports efficient operation of the mechanism with a spring matched to the factory power output of the replica.

Electronic system

The model is equipped with an Eshooter Kestrel V2 BASIC ETU designed for configurations using a V2 gearbox. Programming is carried out using the trigger and allows, among other settings, one of five pre-cocking levels to be selected. The system automatically determines the stopping position of the pre-cocking mechanism according to the speed and load of the drive system.

The Kestrel V2 BASIC features active braking and locked rotor protection. The electronics also monitor battery voltage and indicate when the voltage level is too low. According to the ETU manufacturer, the supported operating voltage range is 6-17 V.

The system supports brushless, high-speed and hi-torque motors.

Performance and accuracy

The factory muzzle velocity is ~420 FPS. The brass inner barrel has a diameter of 6.03 mm and a length of 330 mm, supporting shot-to-shot consistency.

The metal rotary hop-up chamber allows the BB spin to be adjusted. This type of chamber facilitates precise trajectory adjustment and allows the replica to be configured for the BB weight being used.

Power supply

The replica uses a T-connect connector, with battery space located inside the stock tube.
