Tokyo Marui M4A1 MWS GBB ZET System is a gas-powered rifle replica based on the AR-15 platform, designed for smooth gas system operation, high shot-to-shot consistency, and realistic GBBR handling. The construction combines Tokyo Marui's refined blowback system with a high level of mechanical smoothness and a pronounced recoil impulse during firing.

Model history

The M4A1 carbine is a fully automatic evolution of the M4 platform, itself a shorter and lighter variant of the M16 rifle. Over time, it became a standard weapon for US special forces, and from the 2010s it gradually began replacing earlier configurations in line units.

The A1 version, introduced in the 1990s and widely used until around 2014, was primarily intended for SOCOM units. In this configuration, burst fire was replaced with full automatic fire, and the use of a heavier barrel improved resistance to overheating during sustained operation.

From 2014 onwards, modernization and standardization programs began, gradually upgrading classic M4 rifles to the M4A1 standard across the US Armed Forces.

Design and construction

The M4A1 MWS model retains the classic AR-15 silhouette with an internal barrel length of 250 mm.

The overall length is 780 mm with the stock retracted and 860 mm with the stock extended, allowing configuration adjustment depending on user preference and operating conditions.

Weight of ~2496 g without magazine and ~2950 g with an inserted empty magazine provides realistic GBBR balance.

A 14 mm CCW thread allows the installation of suppressors, tracer units, and other compatible muzzle devices.

The receiver and external components are finished with a Cerakote coating, increasing abrasion resistance and providing a realistic surface finish.

Gas system and blowback

The replica is equipped with a blowback system featuring a piston with a diameter of approximately 19 mm, generating a strong and dynamic recoil impulse during firing.

The ZET system supports efficient gas operation and reduces wear on mechanical components during the firing cycle.

Construction and ergonomics

The front end features a RAS (Rail Adapter System) with 20 mm Picatinny rails on all sides. This allows mounting of accessories such as flashlights and foregrips. A heat shield is also reproduced inside the handguard.

A stock adjustable in six positions allows length adjustment to the user and operating conditions.

Realism and operation

The replica reproduces firearm-like operation, including chambering the first BB after charging, bolt hold-open after the magazine is empty, and bolt catch engagement after magazine changes.

Sights

The front sight is adjustable in elevation using the included tool. The rear sight allows both windage and elevation adjustment via adjustment knobs.

Magazine

The 35 BB capacity magazine is made from die-cast aluminum. Its construction replicates the weight and handling characteristics of a fully loaded magazine, supporting realistic GBBR operation. Tokyo Marui magazines provide consistent gas delivery and BB feeding during the firing cycle.
