As early as the 1940s, it was used by British commandos in special operations across Europe, and its simplified construction allowed for easy adaptation to various combat conditions.

In later decades, the platform was also used outside Europe,including in special operations in Southeast Asia, where it saw action in covert missions around the Vietnam-Cambodia border. Notably, the configuration with a suppressor and pistol grip was particularly valued by operators for its compactness and effectiveness in stealth operations.
