PSO-1 - historical context

The original PSO-1 sight was developed in the USSR in 1964 for use with the SVD designated marksman rifle. Characteristic features of its design included 4×24 magnification, an illuminated reticle with a rangefinding scale, and an integrated side mount.

The PSO-1 became a recognizable part of the SVD platform, while its later variants and derivative designs were also used with other firearms, including the SVU.
