      For a long time, I was searching for a quality Eastern-style scope that closely resembles the original. After considering various options and reading numerous reviews, I decided to try the Victoptics SVD 3–9x24 FFP scope by Vector Optics, a brand I've had positive experiences with before.

      The scope arrived well-packaged in a sturdy box suitable for long-term storage. Included were a rubber eyecup, lens cover, and a straightforward manual. The scope itself feels solid and closely mirrors the original in appearance. All adjustment knobs operate smoothly without any issues.

      The 3x to 9x magnification range offers excellent flexibility, allowing for both terrain scanning and precise targeting without any blurring or loss of focus. Elevation adjustments are simple and reliable, making this scope suitable not only for airsoft but also for stronger and more accurate air rifles.

      I tested it primarily on a CYMA SVD and also mounted it on both a CYMA AK74 and an Arcturus AK74, all of which feature the side rail mount. The scope performed consistently well on each platform – stable, secure, and precise.

      In low-light conditions, the illuminated reticle is a valuable feature. Mounting is done via a side rail attachment, typical for many Eastern-style rifles. The installation is straightforward, and once secured, the scope stays firmly in place.

      It’s worth mentioning that this scope is a bit heavier than some might expect. However, that’s completely understandable given the model, and the weight adds to the robust, durable impression – which it has so far lived up to.

      Overall, I'm very pleasantly surprised by the performance of this scope. For a reasonable price, you get a level of quality that exceeds expectations. The only minor drawback is the limited availability of protective lens covers or killflashes, but that’s just a detail.

The Vector Optics 3-9x24 FFP riflescope is an optical sight styled after SVD scopes and equipped with a QD mount designed for an AK mounting rail. The model combines 3-9x variable magnification, a reticle positioned in the first focal plane, and two-level red illumination, allowing the image and reticle visibility to be adjusted to the conditions of use.

FFP optics and 3-9x magnification

The riflescope uses a first focal plane (FFP) optical system, in which the reticle changes size together with the selected magnification. This allows the proportions of the reticle markings to remain consistent relative to the observed target throughout the magnification range.

The 3-9x magnification range allows the image to be adjusted to the distance and size of the observed target. The objective lens has a diameter of 24 mm, while the external diameter of the objective section is 38 mm. Its length is 62 mm.

The exit pupil ranges from 8.0 to 2.7 mm, depending on the selected magnification. The field of view at 100 yards (~92 m) ranges from 46 feet (~14 m) to 19 feet (~5.8 m).

The fully multi-coated optics help reduce light reflections and support image clarity in changing lighting conditions.

SVD reticle and adjustment

The model features an SVD reticle positioned in the first focal plane. Two-level red illumination allows the visibility of the reticle to be adjusted to the surrounding conditions.

The adjustment turrets operate at 0.5 MIL per click. The elevation adjustment range is 18 MIL, and the windage adjustment range is also 18 MIL. Parallax is factory-set at 100 yards.

The eye relief ranges from 80 to 76.2 mm, allowing the scope to be positioned appropriately in relation to the user.

QD mount for an AK mounting rail

The integrated QD mount allows the riflescope to be installed on an AK mounting rail and removed quickly. Its design is styled after classic optical sights used on SVD platforms.

The mount is an integral part of the sight, so the riflescope is ready for installation on a compatible rail without additional mounts.

Aluminium construction

The riflescope body is made of cast aluminium. The total length of the sight is 285 mm, and its weight without lens covers is 602 g.

The fully sealed construction is nitrogen-filled, which helps reduce fogging of the optical elements. The riflescope has an IPX4 water-resistance rating and shock resistance up to 500 g.

The black finish complements the design inspired by sights intended for AK and SVD platforms.

Power supply

The reticle illumination is powered by a CR2032 battery. Two red illumination levels allow its intensity to be adjusted to the current lighting conditions.
